Distribution: Native to warm temperate & tropical climates, found in Asian nations (Iranto China, Japan and New Guinea) and also in Queensland and Australia, inhabiting the shallow wetland habitats, swamps ponds and lakes.
Description: Revered as a divine symbol in several religions, lotus is a truly iconic plant. An aquatic perennial plant with large pink showy flowers. The roots are buried in the soil of the pond, while the leaves float on top of the water surface or are held well above it. The flowers are found on thick stems. The genus often said to be a close relative of water lilies.
