The Deadly Black Mamba
The Deadly Black Mamba
Black mamba is one of the most venomous snakes in the world and is known for its aggressiveness. It is the longest venomous snake in Africa and the second longest in the world. It is also the fastest land snake with a speed of 11 to 19 km/h, which is really fast for a limbless animal. The black mamba is found in Africa, especially in Eastern Africa. The snake is named not for its body colour, but because of its ink-black mouth. Black mamba can grow up to a length of 8-10ft and even up to 16ft, though rarely. Dorsal side of the body is pale olive green, metallic green or sometimes khaki with black spots. The underpart of the body is yellow or greenish yellow or creamy in colour. The snake is very aggressive and attacks without any warning if disturbed or not handled carefully. Its venom is a neurotoxin, which is very deadly and can kill a human within 30 minutes. Sometimes, it takes 2-3 hours. If the victim survives, the venom can cause permanent paralysis. They feed mainly on galagos, bats and small chickens.
