Distribution:
It is endemic to western forests of Madagascar, but also found in tropical and subtropical region.
Description:
Known as peacock flower, most aptly for its physical appearance and beauty. The clusters of flame red flowers with four spreading scarlet colored petals, and a fifth upright petal called standard, looks fantastic against the green foliage. The delicate fern like leaves are divided into small leaflets which fold up at the onset of dusk. Gulmohar can be 30 -40 ft tall
with its natural umbrella like canopy .
Importance:
1. The tree has nitrogen fixing and soil improving properties.
2. Its a popular street tree with ornamental value.
