Malaysian Orchid Mantis
Malaysian Orchid Mantis
This astonishing and fragile-looking orchid is one of nature’s most amazing creations. In reality, it’s a rather hardy predator, and there are thousands of different varieties. This Malaysian Orchid Mantis has cleverly adapted to resemble the striking white orchids of the region. This ability to maintain a camouflage helps them to prey as well as to hide from predators. Although primarily carnivorous, orchid mantises have been observed eating little bits of banana, this behavior is thought to balance the mantis’s vitamin intake through the juices of the banana (which are rich in potassium).
