Long eared jerboa(Euchoreutes naso) is a nocturnal mouse-like rodent with a long tail, long hind legs for jumping, and exceptionally large ears. Long-eared jerboas are found in the Palearctic ecozone. The specific palearctic ecozone areas they are found in are southernmost Mongolia to the Takla-Makan Desert, Mengxin, Aerijin Mountain, and Qing-Zang Plateau regions of north western China. It’s tail is 2 times longer than its body. It has well developed hind legs like kangaroo which allows it to jump 46mm. It is about 2.8 inch-3.5 inch long and tail is 5.9 inch-6.4 inch long and weighs 24g-38g. It’s diet includes grass, grain and fruits.
The Long-eared jerboa was identified as one of the top-10 “focal species” in 2007 by the Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) project.
