Laughing bumblebees orchid (Ophrys bombyliflora) is a species of terrestrial orchids found growing in Europe and Africa. These are commonly known as ‘bee orchids’ since the flower appears just like the furry body of a bee. Its scientific name originated from the Greek word for “eyebrow”, referring to the hairy edges of lips. Another interesting fact about this species is that this flower mimics the shape of a female bee and this resemblance helps in tricking other male bees to be attracted towards them for mating. Hence, the process of pollination is also successfully completed. Even orchids know it better how to fool a male!
