Scientific Name: Theridion grallator
Description:
It is a small glass like spider about 5mm overall. It lives under leaves with much reduced web. The female guards her egg until they hatch and hunt for babies. Scientists think they have developed these patterns to keep away birds.
Distribution:
They are found in the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui. It is specially known for its unique pattern on abdomen. The color and pattern may be different in different islands, but all looks like happy face. In Hawaiian it’s called ‘nananana makaldi’.
