Gnemon

Gnemon, also known by the scientific name Gnetum gnemon, is an evergreen tree that grows from 8-15 m tall. Gnemon is native to Southeast Asia and islands in the western Pacific including Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vanuatu. Many parts of Gnemon are used for food. The leaves are used to wrap food and as a vegetable and the seeds are eaten raw, boiled or roasted. It is widely used in Indonesian cuisine. It was discovered recently that the fruit-like strobili of Gnemon is rich in a stilbenoid composed of resveratrol, which is a potent antioxidant.
