The Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) is considered to be the largest salamander in the world. It is found in rocky mountain streams and lakes of China and reaches a length of 180cm (6 ft). it can weigh up to 25-30 kg. It can make sounds like barking, whining, hissing and often can be confused with the sound of the crying of a baby. It has poor vision, so it depends on sensory nodes on its body to detect prey like insects, frogs and fishes. Due to pollution, poaching and habitat loss, it is now considered as a critically endangered species by the IUCN.
