The armadillo girdled lizard (Cordylus cataphractus), or simply armadillo lizard is a species of lizard naturally endemic to desserts of southern Africa. It is a 16-21cm lizard with light brown to dark brown body. The ventral side of the body is yellow with black markings, specially on chin The back is covered with spines. The reptile gets its name from the ability of curling like a ball, when disturbed or threatened. It is a diurnal lizard and lives near rocky and dry areas where it hides itself between and under rocks. Males are territorial and only mate with the females living in his territory. Armadillo lizard has a really strong jaw. Their main foods are small insects,spiders,ants and termites. They are often kept as pets and can live up to 10 years in captivity.
