18th May- International Museum Day
18th May- International Museum Day
International Museum Day was established by The International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977 to encourage public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.
As we all know that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples. To fulfill this motto, museums from every corner of the world participate in the celebration of 18th May every year. On this day, participating museums interpret an issue that concerns all cultural organizations. International Museum Day is also a fantastic opportunity for museum professionals to meet their public. At the heart of society, museums are institutions dedicated to its development.
Every year, this day seems to be successful in gathering more museums from all around the world. As the last year records say, 32,000 museums from 129 countries on five continents participated in the event. The celebration lasts a day, a weekend, a week or even a month.
