Distribution:
Wild ancestors are native to southeast asia, found in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Description:
The siamese fighting fish Aka Betta fish is a species of freshwater fish. They are mostly found in swamp areas with water plants. Adult fisher grow to a length of about 3 inches. Thought the Betta fishes kept in aquarium displays numerous colors which is the result of selective breeding. Wild Betta fishes are dull green or brown. Betta fishes are known for their beautiful and long fins and wild betta’s have much shorter fins than the captive ones. Betta fishes can live 2-3 years in captivity.
Behaviour:
In breeding season, male betta fishes perform a beautiful display by spreading their gills and fins and curving their bodies to attract the females and if the females are attracted, they response by curving their bodies. Bettas fishes show beautiful colors during this courtship. To lay eggs, they form a bubble nest by mixing bubbles and saliva, a floating platform near water plants or rocks. They keep their eggs wet until they hatch. Though wild bettas don’t show gorgeous colors all time, selective breeded bettas shows gorgeous colors and long fins such as blue, red, white, purple, purple and white, and sometimes multi-colored.

This Betta fish is popular and kept as a pet in aquarium.
