There are about 5 species in the genus Fregata. Frigatebird is a large bird with long pointed wings that measures about 2.3 meters. The male bird has shiny iridescent black body, leg and bill and deeply forked long tail, and the female has white underbelly. The male has a distinctive deep red throat pouch that is spread like a balloon during courtship. It has largest wingspan considering it’s body weight. Frigatebird can’t swim, walk well either, it can’t take off from flat surface, but it is an excellent aerial bird. It seldom lands and can fly up-to 3 days without a break. Frigatebird makes large colonies on remote islands and breeds on small but strong trees and cliffs.

Pair of Fregatebird

Diet: Being a sea bird, Frigatebird’s food mainly come from the sea, however it sometimes rob other sea birds and take away chicks, and this behaviour has given them the name “Pirate Bird”.

Interesting Frigate Bird Common Name: Frigate bird, Man of War, Pirate bird Family: Frigatidae, Genus:Fregata Scientific Name: Fregata minor Distribution: Found in every tropical ocean, Galapagos island.

[5,24
1024,637,902,1025

post-2259","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-animals","category-birds","tag-frigatebird","tag-galapagos-island","tag-man-of-war","tag-pirate-bird
["GET
