National Wildlife Day

About: National Wildlife Day (September, 4th) serves to celebrate wild animals & bring awareness to the number of endangered animals globally, that need to be preserved and rescued from their demise each year, but also to acknowledge U.S. zoos and outstanding animal sanctuaries for everything they do to help preserve this planet’s animals and educate the public about conservation, especially to children.

History: Colleen Paige, author and founder of the Animal Miracle Network, created National Wildlife day . She created National Wildlife Day in 2006, in memory of wildlife conservationist and rescuer, Steve Irwin-Crocodile Hunter, for his eternal love of all animal species. Colleen Paige wanted to keep up the legacy of having a passion and appreciation for the many wild, and some unfamiliar, creatures that we share this planet with.

Goal: As you go on with your day today, take note of the different animals that you see. Even if they are domesticated, take a minute to think about where they came from and what they would be like in the wild. Understand that each species on our planet serves a purpose and should be cared for and protected just as we would our own pets! Look up your local zoo or animal sanctuary, sponsor a favorite animal, donate or volunteer to help in any way you can.
