Dramatic effects of climate change will be making the Arctic Ocean ice free in summer months, if global temperature rises by more than 2°C over current levels, according to UN report. The gradual reduction of Arctic ice may result in rise in water levels and increase the possibility of new sea lanes accessing the frozen north of Russia, Japan and Scandinavian countries. The report claims an increase of global land and ocean temperature of about 0.8°C over 1901-2010 and about 0.5°C over the period 1979-2010 which results in a drastic change in the global ecosystem.

The most important thing to be worried about is that the changes in the polar ice cap mainly due to human induced climate change, can alter life on earth at its worst, unless the annual rate of greenhouse gas emission is halted or reversed.
